Artist’s Description:

Bontle is a Setswana language origin which means beauty but the word means more than the physical appearance but mostly everything good. When you look at history not every new and exciting thing begin on a civilization. Human beings create advanced new designs/technologies out of their own experiences. They don’t have to live in this kind of society of that kind of society.

The elements on the design are actually separate parts of three print designs (zebra, sea shell and doodle line work patterns) super-positioned together and mirror imaged depicting a modern inspired African traditional mask and emulating  the counterproductive conversations we have as people about being true to one self by wearing your own mask. The design was international but, was not anticipated. It shows that with African design your given space and context, and your soul will tell you how you need to behave and how you need to respond. You should never follow the crowd but be one with the crowd. That’s why we do same things and yet get different results because; the idea of art in an Africa context is of unparalleled beauty.
